A Taste of Spain at Swissotel
Calcutta Wine Club hosted a wine brunch on 5 Feb 2013 at Swissotel, Kolkata at their newly opened outdoor area
SPLASH. It was a Spanish afternoon with Spanish music, Spanish wines and food with a Spanish
touch. Chef Deepak Mishra laid out a grand buffet with soups, salads, live cooking, main dishes and
superb desserts. Some of the items were Gambas al Ajillo, Albondigas Caseras, Pincho Moruno,
Paella, Pork and Beef sausages, saffron rice, wide variety of salads and cold cuts, and assorted
desserts along with a selection of boutique cheeses. Not to be left out were the wines from Valencia
region. The 3 wines served from the house of Torreoria are 1. Marques de Requena—Blanco-a light
white wine made from Macabeo grape. Served well chilled, it was the perfect wine for a mildly
sunny afternoon. 2. Marques de Requena---Tinto—a fruity red made from Tempranillo grape. Served
cooledit was a pleasant red packed with fruit flavours. 3. SLCN Crianza---An aged red made with the
same grapes as above, this wine was a great hit with everybody. Great balance of tannins and fruit,
with a good length this is a wine to go with food. A great afternoon spent with members of CWC
who could also bring their friends.
